Overview
Language Reading Connection: Deaf or Hard of Hearing (LRC-DHH): Regional Professional Development Institute for Teachers of Students Who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
Purpose
The Language Reading Connection: Deaf or Hard of Hearing (LRC-DHH) is a 3-day professional development institute that will provide in-depth information, opportunity for practice & application, and resources to teachers of students who or deaf or hard of hearing to equip them to fulfill their role(s) in reading remediation with K-12 level students.

Development of LRC-DHH
The Language Reading Connection-DHH professional development was created by a dynamic team of educators specializing in students who are deaf or hard of hearing representing various districts and universities throughout the state of Florida and United States. This professional development was created in 2006 – 2007.
What Participants Can Expect to Learn
- Gain knowledge of key concepts and issues specific to students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Gain knowledge and skills necessary to provide specialized reading instruction for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Gain knowledge and skills necessary to appropriately assess reading ability and progress of students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Gain ability to locate and utilize available resources.
- Gain knowledge and skills necessary to build effective partnerships with parents and other professionals of children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Continuing Education Units Continuing education units may be received by participating in the three day professional development institute and completing follow-up activities as required by the Florida Professional Development System Evaluation Protocol.

All participants attending the Language Reading Connection-Deaf/Hard of Hearing must complete the follow-up activities. Certificates of attendance noting the required continuing education units and/or in-service points will be provided to participants upon completion of follow-up activities.
